Project Scope: Design of a retreat cabin prototype for a 20 unit cabin resort north of Fargo.
Client Requests:
– 900-1000sqft floor area.
– Stand alone structures.
– Design to passive house criteria.
– Cost saving considerations.
Solution: 900sqft loft with compact foot print, maximized daylight and minimum fenestrations. This solution merges interior and exterior environments seamlessly with a large glazing wall regulated by a solar panel/sun shade on the exterior and a light shelf on the interior. Interior curtains will allow for controlled shading & privacy when desired. Cost savings are achieved through a compact basic shape, implementation of a shallow frost protected foundation, low maintenance siding/roofing material, high performance envelope, and high performance glazing system.
